What was John Denver thinking... putting DEN so far away from downtown?

I have pondered operating as a snow-bird of sorts as I love MN between April and November... and it kind of doesn't matter where I actually live.  Which begs the question; where should I live in the off-season? I had considered a few places: * Austin, TX - nope... that place is played out like Seattle, Portland, etc... long lines, over-priced food/housing... After living in DC for a few years.. I'm kind of over that. * Asheville, NC - I still may end up there some day.  Close to DC (for work), not ridiculously over-priced.  However, the winters can still be a bit shady. * Denver, CO - This... is a tough one.  I LOVE Colorado.  However, Denver has yet to impress me the few times I have been here.  The people I encounter seem like extras in Breaking Bad (not in a good way) and the city really feels crowded and pointlessly busy.  (I was in "rush hour" on a Thursday at 1pm... again, after DC.. no thanks!).  Getting to the airport seems like it ...

A West Side Story

Heading to Denver (then on to Albuquerque) tomorrow.  I think I have 10 or so states on my list of "States I have ridden in... in the US".  Time to add one or two more. It seems kind of ironic as I am looking at my receding hairline and growing widow's peaks in the mirror, that I am at the same time daydreaming about mountain biking at elevation and setting a goal to ride my mountain bike in every state in the (continental) US. I'm going to be 45 soon.. and it's time to get gettin'
